The Challenge

The goal of this project was to design an intuitive and functional mobile application where readers can easily access and read their favorite comics and Manga.

Our team designed a high fidelity prototype for Comic Cat that highlighted some of the key features of the app: (1) search and filter function based on key words and genres (2) personalized library of

in-progress comics and recommended comics based on reading patterns. (3) reading style customization to mimic paperback book reading habits.

The Research

An initial focus group consisting of primarily young adult users were gathered to discuss their current manga-reading habits and pain points regarding similar apps used. Questionnaires were distributed to a larger pool of participants, including stakeholders.

Data gathered from the focus group and questionnaires were analyzed using affinity diagramming methods.

Low fidelity sketches of the app was made based on user needs and expectations. Sketches were then shown to select participants to gain feedback and a better understanding of information seeking behaviors.

The Design

Following the final iterations of the sketches. Low fidelity wireframes of key features were designed and underwent user testing alliteratively. Our team also employed A/B testing as a main method of determining user preferences and behaviors.

Once user testing was complete on the low fidelity wireframes, our team designed the high fidelity prototype which included detailed graphical work and functional features. The final prototype was tested by both new participants and previous participants of the low fidelity prototypes.
